My mom doesn’t believe in BLW, but she watches my baby

Hi Reader,

I remember my mom was pretty suspect of baby-led weaning when I started doing it with my quadruplets…

It can be hard when your mom, or mother-in-law, your spouse or your partner isn’t on board with baby-led weaning when you are.

In today’s new episode of the baby-led weaning podcast I’m sharing some tips and sample language to use to get doubters to come around on baby-led weaning.

This is episode 22 of the Baby-Led Weaning podcast entitled “Grandparents, Spouses & Partners: Getting Doubters on Board with Baby-Led Weaning” and you can listen and read more on the shownotes page located here.

Handling Haters

Often times when someone is suspect about baby-led weaning it’s because they don’t understand that this is a safe, evidence-based approach to starting solid foods.

Listen to this new episode of the podcast to learn:

  • How to deal with people in your inner circle who aren't entirely on board with baby-led weaning (yet 😜): grandparents, spouses and partners
  • Why it's important to get comfortable feeding your baby FIRST before you invite someone else into your feeding environment
  • Tips for staying focused on your goal: raising an independent eater...and not getting distracted by the mess or even how much your baby is (or isn't) eating

I do hope you find the info in this episode helpful if you’re feeling kind of isolated in your decision to do baby-led weaning.

These techniques really helped me…and I’m proud to say my mom TOTALLY came around on baby-led weaning and brags openly about how well her grandkids eat even to this day!

Happy Feeding,

– Katie

I’m a Registered Dietitian, college nutrition professor and mom of seven who specializes in infant feeding and baby-led weaning. Like many parents, I struggled with spoon-feeding my oldest until I discovered baby-led weaning - a natural, hands-on approach that lets your baby build a foundational love of food. Starting solid foods can be stressful, but I’ll help cut through the noise with a proven strategy for helping babies master baby-led weaning.

Hi Reader, Question: What do babies drink after they turn one? Answer: ….water, breastmilk or cow’s milk, right? Yes…but…what if we are wrong about the cow’s milk stuff? Sophie Egan is the author of How to Be a Conscious Eater and she joined me on today’s new episode of the baby-led weaning podcast to talk about the role of cow’s milk for toddlers: why do we do it and what if we didn’t? This is episode 42 of the podcast “Is Cow’s Milk a Must for Toddlers? With Sophie Eagan” and you can listen...

Hi Reader, I remember the first time one of my quadruplets had a shellfish reaction… We were at a Super Bowl party and he helped himself to some ceviche - which resulted in hives on his face and neck about an hour later. Offering your baby potentially allergenic foods like shellfish can be scary… …but avoiding shellfish entirely may actually increase the risk of allergy later on. In today’s new episode of the baby-led weaning podcast I’m covering Shellfish: How to Introduce Your Baby to this...

Hi Reader, I’ve been working with a wonderful assistant named Jedi in the baby-led weaning world for a few years now, and she just had her first baby. Jedi helps us with tons of content and she probably knows more than most people about starting solid foods safely… …but like most new moms - Jedi was worried when her baby wasn’t sitting on his own RIGHT at the 6 month mark - does that mean he can’t eat yet? 😱 If you’re stressing about your baby not sitting by 6 months of age, I just did a new...
